Dr Morné de Wet

Dr Morné de Wet

Dr Morné is happiest wearing surgical gloves because the theatre is where he knows he makes his most valuable contribution to his patients’ lives, performing surgeries that will change their lives for the better for ever

“I love being a vet because the bond between pet and pet-parent is priceless. And I have the opportunity to help pets live their happiest, healthiest, pain-free lives.”

Dr Morné de Wet is absolutely passionate about his patients. He is at his happiest when he can perform a surgery on a pet, that he knows will make a huge difference to their quality of life. And he loves seeing how well they recover.

When Dr Morné first meets a pet-patient he’ll go out of his way to make sure they feel comfortable and will often sit on the floor and get to know them before he examines them. He is fantastic at explaining complicated conditions and will make sure that you feel comfortable with the next steps for your pets.

Since purchasing Cottage Vet in 2014 he has dedicated his time and skills to complicated orthopaedic and other surgeries. Knee surgery is his favourite and he is an expert in cruciate and patella disease in dogs. He also he loves doing spinal surgery and is one of the few vets in the Helderberg that can offer MRI and CT scans for pets.

He lives in Somerset West with his wife Dr Ingrid, his daughter Elizabeth and their three goofy dogs Mowgli, Alvin and Dawie. On the weekends you’ll find him in the great outdoors, mountain biking and stand up paddle boarding. He also spends quite a bit of time watching Paw Patrol with his daughter. Thus, the following quote is particularly relevant to him, “no job is too big, no pup is too small!”
